Urban Wilderness is a landscape design and environmental consultancy based in Leeds.

We consist of a team of Landscape Architects, Masterplanners and Urban Designers, offering our clients a wide range of services, from project feasibility studies through to detailed design and implementation. We specialise in masterplanning, urban realm and residential projects. As a company we pride ourselves in our design ethos and horticultural expertise.

Tim Reid - Director

Tim Reid: Director, Urban Wilderness Ltd

Tim Reid is a Chartered Landscape Architect who is a graduate of Edinburgh College of Art and the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, where he gained his Masters in Landscape Architecture and HND with distinction in Horticulture and Plantsmanship.  Tim's experience is based on private practice in Edinburgh before establishing Urban Wilderness in 2010.

Tim's experience includes landscape master planning, Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment, Open Green Space assessment, historic landscape conservation and project management. Project experience extends from large scale student campus design at the New Veterinary School for the University of Edinburgh to high profile central city sites such as the National Galleries in Edinburgh, through to schools and play spaces in Edinburgh, Birmingham and Preston and private estate developments such as Knock Knowe in the Scottish Borders (recently covered by the BBC 1 series "The Planners"). Tim has a passion for planting design and a guiding philosophy that well‐considered urban planting can lift the soul and breathe life into the urban environment.

Nathan Edwards - Director

Nathan Edwards: Director, Urban Wilderness Ltd

Nathan is a Chartered Landscape Architect with over fourteen years of experience in the field of landscape design, urban design, masterplanning, design coding, landscape assessment, site implementation and management. His degree was a dual honours course in Landscape Architecture and Town and Regional Planning from Sheffield University (1995-1998), followed by a Landscape Diploma from Sheffield University (1999-2000). Prior to joining Urban Wilderness as a Director, in 2015, Nathan led a team of landscape architects and masterplanners as an Associate Director of FPCR Environment and Design Ltd in Derby.

Since graduating, Nathan has worked on a wide range of design, assessment, construction and management projects throughout the UK and Ireland. These range from housing to mixed use urban extensions, and from Student Accommodation to new parks and nature reserves. Nathan is experienced in landscape design and master planning at all levels from project inception through to implementation and management. He has worked for clients in both the public and private sectors and as the novated consultant for the contractor in design and build contracts. In addition Nathan has been responsible for the design of remedial solutions for the treatment and monitoring of Japanese knotweed and giant hogweed.

Recent projects include the urban design and masterplanning of a large mixed use urban extension including 1100 houses; a doctors' surgery, local shops , primary school and care home at Newlands to the south of Fareham; the design coding of a new 21st Century neighbourhood to the north of Bishop's Cleeve and the detailed design and implementation of a new student Halls of residence in the heart of Northampton.

Sam James - Landscape Architect

Sam James: Landscape Architect, Urban Wilderness Ltd

Sam completed a Masters in Landscape Architecture and Design from Leeds Metropolitan University in 2013. He gained a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture at Liverpool University in 2006 and spent several years in Landscape construction and maintenance. With his combined qualifications and experience, Sam has a well-rounded approach to landscape design.

Since working at Urban Wilderness Sam has been involved in masterplanning, Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment, residential garden design, competition entries, planning applications and production of construction drawing packages, providing valuable experience in a broad range of the Landscape project work. Sam is passionate about promoting the importance of landscape architecture and the social and environmental benefits that accompany well designed spaces.

Sam is currently embarking on the Landscape Institute's Pathway to Chartership programme to complete his professional training.

Andrew Kennard - Landscape Architect

Andrew Kennard: Landscape Architect, Urban Wilderness Ltd

Andrew completed a Masters in Landscape Architecture with Town and Regional Planning from Sheffield University in 2015. Andrew has a keen interest in developing urban spaces which provide a high impact for their users whilst being developed using often incidental space and a modest budget. Andrew's final year work included the redevelopment of Neepsend in Sheffield to deliver community spaces with the benefit of streetscape enhancement to lift the overall image of the area.

Since working at Urban Wilderness Andrew has been involved in masterplanning, Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment, planting design, site promotion and planning applications, providing him with valuable experience in a broad range of Landscape work.

Andrew is currently embarking on the Landscape Institute's Pathway to Chartership programme to complete his professional training.

Jack Tupper - Trainee Landscape Architect

Jack Tupper: Trainee Landscape Architect, Urban Wilderness Ltd

Jack is currently completing his masters in landscape architecture at Leeds Beckett University, after finishing a year's research placement at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver.

With an interest in urban ecology, Jack's work focuses upon the remediation of the urban fabric and the integration of biophyllic practices. Jack has worked in both Switzerland and Australia, and spent the last 3 years working in Vancouver Canada where he worked on projects of varying sizes, ranging from 100-year masterplans to parklands and community interventions.

Chris Hughes - Senior Landscape Architect

Chris Hughes - Senior Landscape Architect, Urban Wilderness Ltd

Chris is a Chartered Landscape Architect with over nine years of experience. He gained First Class Honours from Leeds Metropolitan University in 2009, where he was awarded best student work by the Landscape Institute Yorkshire and Humber Branch. This was followed by a Post Graduate Diploma (with Distinction) in 2011. He gained his professional qualification in November 2016 and is now a Chartered Member of the Landscape Institute.

Before joining Urban Wilderness in May 2016, Chris worked with both a landscape design led practice and an international multi-disciplinary company on a wide range of design, assessment, and strategic projects throughout the UK. These range from designing city centre public realm and civic spaces, strategic planning on behalf of local authorities, masterplanning large housing projects and universities, producing public realm strategies and a wide variety of landscape and visual impact and character assessments.

Bianca Leung - Landscape Architect

Bianca Leung: Landscape Architect, Urban Wilderness Ltd

Bianca studied a dual degree course in Landscape Architecture and Architecture from University of Sheffield (2005-2009), followed by a Landscape Diploma course from University of Sheffield (2010-11). 

She joined Urban Wilderness in Autumn 2016, following five years of extensive work experience in variety of projects including masterplanning, detail design and assessment in England, Scotland and overseas.   

Bianca is particularly interested in an integrated, creative and collaborative approach to designing landscape, and she believes that landscape design should meet the aspirations and needs of the community.
